Now that I am in Israel, I wish to say hello to everyone. Hopefully you are well.

I was awed by how peaceful people feel here at Efrat, that is where my parents live. Such a peaceful life on Shabbat.  Everyone was snowed in, the Jews, the Arabs the animals too, we all go through similar experiences in some ways. When the white is all around it is for everyone.

On Shabbat (Friday night) after midnight I was strolling through the quiet center of Efrat , where some youths, completely oblivious to a stranger, me, engrossed in there teenage celebration of laughter and chats, running and giggling, hushed conversations. Especially it was refreshing to see 2 teenage girls passing me by giggling and laughing, running somewhere and nowhere down the hill, feeling completely safe passing few inches from me, not even noticing my existence. It was just pure peace as life was meant to be.  Full of peace.

This morning at Tel Azeka

It was a sleepless night and I drove early in the morning into a beautiful sunny day, down the Judean hills. Since I had some extra time I took a sharp left turn into a mountain road, which I assumed will be, at such an early time, serene and quiet. Not so. After few minutes of enjoying the ambiance of a quiet morning on a mountain top, with the trees and terraces and an ancient well, all kind of heavy equipment begun to appear up the narrow meandering gravel road, including a semitrailer which blocked my way going down the mountain. I did though enjoyed a few moments of total quietude before all this happened. Watch this video taken few minutes before all that happened.

Kineret
Kineret surprise surprise..

The kineret is making lots of headlines nowadays. Today it was even declared that we are not in a water shortage any longer and that we became The most water sufficient industrialized country in the world, a little bit premature perhaps. Last week storm brought huge amount of water and some local floods and disasters as well. The Kineret shot up some 89 centimeters, more than half of the yearly average rise. partly the reason for the sharp rise is that Israel is desalinating 330 million metric cubes of water a year which is half of the drinking water. This way we have to draw less water from the lake. Paradoxically, the water price keep rising, probably because the desalinization is done by private companies and is subjected to private contracts.

Less spoken of but as important is the mountain aquifer, it brings some 350 million metric cubes a year. It is hidden beneath the ground of cause and measurements are taken place only once a month. It will take a while until we know how this last storm affected this water reservoir.

 Lets wait..
