Israel Ramble letters
Dear friend,

So, what do we have today?! A new song was born, Israel-light, and
some photos of the Dead Sea, one of them from 1895, you can click on the photos to get a full size. I was reminded today about a wild donkey we had in the kibbutz and how we had to chase him as children, but that is a story for another issue, stay tuned.

A Yellow Prayer
Boaz Thumbnail You are one of the firsts
Yesterday a new songYellow Prayer, was born in Israel, and you are going to be one of the first to listen to it, I have just received it from a friend in Israel. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did. Here is a free translation of the song

I shall open my eyes                                                  אפקח את עיניי
Want always to see the beauty                  רוצה תמיד לראות את היופי
you have scattered in every corner                      שפיזרת בכל פינה
sensing the splendor and grace                    לחוש את ההוד והחסד
you have endowed in all your created souls  ששפעת בכל ברואך

If I said it once I said it a million times - do not exaggerate
When we hear the word "Israel" we start feeling heavy maybe, for many good reasons, historical and current, but believe it or not, there is "Israel light", very funny Israel.

There is an amazingly funny humor going on in Israel, right under our noses, who are so tuned in to look for tragedy and disaster, I am bursting in laughter so many times and it is hard to share, because humor is sadly conext related, idiosyncratic if you like, so what are we going to do about it?!

I used to invent jokes all through my junior and senior school years, mostly I was the only one who laughed, but it was a good practice, so much so that I don't mind much whether people are laughing or not when I tell a joke, often they don't. My best friend in Israel said to me, well one out of 7 you have a good joke, and it is worth suffering through the other 6, so there, you have been warned.

Joke books were the first books I ever read. The first sound I ever heard in this life, so I was told, was a burst of laughter, maybe that is why I am hooked. I remember a night around the campfire in an open field off the Kibbutz houses, I was reading skits from book, I sure had a kick out of it, not sure anyone else had.

One of the things we like doing in Israel is telling jokes to each other until the bitter end, when it is too late. jokes are a good way to vent, I think. When we are able to laugh at our own foibles then there is hope.

Look at this baby laughter, it will make you feel better
instantaneously
